got mail?

trees crashing down all around

wagon-wheel mailbox laying down

portable workshop on the ground

it works! spinning round and round

JOHO {joys of home ownership}  - we didn't plan on working this weekend, but a couple of things happened that said - time to fix some things around the house.

Tuesday last found the road blocked with trees, and the mailbox was the victim. Luckily the county came out and cleared the road, thanks to sister Sue who has kin there {yay!}… and then she and Heidi did a great job fixing up the mailbox.

The wagon-wheel mailbox built by Papaw Tidwell way back, it spins around to access both boxes (I am sure the mailman letter carrier loves this!). It is a landmark, something to tell folks - "turn at the wagon-wheel mailbox," kind of like the Big Chicken in Marietta.

Buddy took this opportunity to replace the old post, deciding to use some of the tree that fell (which happened to be a black locust) and make a new post.

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds… or trees that fall...

This time wasn't as bad as the last time when all the mailboxes up and down the road were mowed down by local joy-riders, as seen HERE and HERE.

But the day before this happened was the real reason we decided it was time to work on JOHO stuff.

The nice folks next door came by and someone decided to play slip-n-slide on our walkway and ended up in the ER - we figured we better hurry home and work on that slippery spot before we got sued by the neighbors... more to come...
