baby quilt

It's a boy! The call came in on Sunday, November 24th. A new nephew! With all that is going on, it took about a week to sink in - I need to make/send something for the new baby. I know, how long have I known this was coming… at least 6 months?  So on the Saturday after Thanksgiving I looked up 'easy baby quilts' online and came up with some ideas, one sounded interesting, called 'quilt as you go'.

Then I went to the local fabric/quilt store (on Small Business Saturday) in search of some little boy fabric. I anticipated finding lots of flowers and other quilt prints, but was figured little boy stuff would be hard to find. I was wrong! There were several to choose from, but with the help of the shopkeeper I chose these prints with race cars and airplanes with a couple of monkeys thrown in.

I told her I needed something quick and easy as I was already running late on this gift, and she asked if I had every tried 'quilt as you go'? The second time in one day I had come across this, so I figured I had to try it.

A couple of firsts for me - spray basting and no pinning - sounds great, right! It sure cuts down on time. As the instructions warned, it might come out a little wonky, but with the help of the resident carpenter's tools I got it squared up in no time.

And after a few hours work, had the finished product!

I found this tutorial, online - thanks Nova!
