Atlanta Athletic Club
Atlanta Athletic Club
exclusive members-only country club in north Atlanta.

We recently received an invitation for a company dinner on December 15th at the Atlanta Athletic Club. Uh oh, way out of my league. My first thought was what to wear, so I had Buddy query the girls in the office. The word came back better than expected, nothing too fancy, a nice pants-suit would be fine.

The men could also wear nice slacks and shirt, ties and suits were not required. Ok, so far so good. Until the next statement - "NO jeans under any circumstance, as the Atlanta Athletic Club will not allow them on their property." Oh boy.

Now whenever we go anywhere, jeans are the usual attire, maybe if it is a special occasion, the 'nice' jeans will come out (like at the recent grand opening of the bank).

Slacks, jacket, or ties do not usually come out unless there is a church or coffin involved, if you know what I mean.

And if they had just left it at 'nice slacks and shirt' it would have been okay, but to add that final ultimatum - it is just a challenge to see how to sneak some denim into the country club.

I looked up on their website and found the dress code page, complete with pictures of inappropriate attire here and here.

It will be interesting to see how many of these construction fellers will get turned away at the door! Watch for us on the news - Hillbillies Invade Country Club - film at 11. I hope all goes well, because I am really looking forward to hearing the special guest speaker!

Have a good time - I hope it's not too stressful. Just remember, people are usually self absorbed enough to not even care what you have on.

Line from "The Wedding Date" spoken by Dermot Mulroney's character, "If you look people right in the eye, they won't notice what you're wearing," as they exit Heathrow Airport upon arrival in London.

Just don't show them your belly button piercing or your tats.

Have fun.

Are denim ties allowed?

I love this statement as it reflects how I "dress up", too. :)

I'm like you, Susan--that ultimatum about jeans, saying "the Atlanta Athletic Club will not allow them on their property" would have made me want to wear an evening gown with jeans hidden underneath just to flout their silly rule.
At least you get to hang out there with people you know, so you're sure to have a good time. Who is the special guest speaker?

Jeans are my usual attire and nice slacks are for funerals & weddings. I think I wouldn't fit in and with that utimatum I'd have to find a way of wearing something made of jean material. Maybe an evening dress made out of jeans.
