exclusive members-only country club in north Atlanta.
We recently received an invitation for a company dinner on December 15th at the Atlanta Athletic Club. Uh oh, way out of my league. My first thought was what to wear, so I had Buddy query the girls in the office. The word came back better than expected, nothing too fancy, a nice pants-suit would be fine.
The men could also wear nice slacks and shirt, ties and suits were not required. Ok, so far so good. Until the next statement - "NO jeans under any circumstance, as the Atlanta Athletic Club will not allow them on their property." Oh boy.
Now whenever we go anywhere, jeans are the usual attire, maybe if it is a special occasion, the 'nice' jeans will come out (like at the recent grand opening of the bank).
Slacks, jacket, or ties do not usually come out unless there is a church or coffin involved, if you know what I mean.
And if they had just left it at 'nice slacks and shirt' it would have been okay, but to add that final ultimatum - it is just a challenge to see how to sneak some denim into the country club.
I looked up on their website and found the dress code page, complete with pictures of inappropriate attire here and here.
It will be interesting to see how many of these construction fellers will get turned away at the door! Watch for us on the news - Hillbillies Invade Country Club - film at 11. I hope all goes well, because I am really looking forward to hearing the special guest speaker!
