hooked on reading

Thinner, lighter, faster, better - no, not my New Year's resolution, but the advertisement for the Amazon Kindle I received for Christmas!

Only 1/3" thin, holds 3500 books, battery life of 1 month, weighs 8.5 oz, has WiFi, the electronic ink looks like actual paper, is very easy to read. The Kindle store has 630,000 books, newspapers, magazine, 9000 blogs, games, crossword puzzles, many for free! Any book in the store is available as a free sample - the first chapter free to see if you like it.

You can load up personal files and documents, use the dictionary included, take notes, highlight passages you want to remember. You can change the font size for us seeing-challenged old folks.

I am old school, backward, resistant to change, if it ain't broke don't fix it, not spontaneous, you get the idea - and I have said in the past that I don't think I would like to have one of these electronic reading devices. But now that I have one… I LOVE IT! No more waiting on books to become available at the library, being on the waiting list for months, no more driving to the library only to see that nothing is of interest to me, no more overdue fees. If I see a book I want, just click and start reading in 60 seconds!

I am a convert from the old to the new, I am hooked!

Ditto! Did NOT think I could hold and read a book from a piece of plastic...but have had my Kindle since March '09. I still read a paper book now and then but not often and usually only if it is a book that Ed has read and wants me to read but is not available on Kindle. Welcome to Kindle World!

Me too. I have been using a Sony eReader for almost two years now and love it. It feels so strange to actually read from a real book anymore. I will have to look into the Kindle when I need to replace my reader - it seems to have some nice features.
