reconstruction

Is your house a mess? Tired of cleaning that toilet? Looking for a change? Just get out that sledge hammer and go for it, it's great therapy!

Reconstruction is underway on the Pinnacle Bank in Royston, Georgia. Buddy usually builds brand new buildings, from scratch, but this one is different. Starting with an old bank building and making it into a new one proves to be very messy.

The first order of business in the circa 1960s building was bringing in an asbestos abatement crew, the week-long process succeeded in removing all of the offending material. Next came the demolition crew, whew - what a mess! Even though he vowed not to bring any more salvage home from a job, he has managed to save a few things from the dumpster and into the back of his truck.

Unlike new projects with everything outlined on blueprints, renovations are sometimes full of surprises, you never know what you might find when tearing out old walls and ceilings. And even though there are blueprints drawn up for this job, oftentimes things are "left up to the discretion of the contractor." Hopefully there won't be any skeletons in the closet, although finding a misplaced bag of money would be okay.

But as Buddy always says, "It could be worse!" It could indeed, he could be outside digging footings and pouring concrete in this subfreezing weather. So at least he has a roof over his head, is out of the wind (somewhat), and is still loving building in a small town.
