family celebration

When our niece Heidi was called to preach way back 12 years ago I proudly announced to coworkers that my niece was going to be a preacher and was promptly shot down and quoted scripture on why women cannot be preachers. I decided not to broach the subject again for a while...

But today I am once again proudly announcing that after a long journey, our niece Heidi is now an ordained minister. We gathered with family and friends along with the congregation of the Pilgrimage United Church of Christ yesterday to be part of the emotional ceremony.

Congratulations to Heidi for following her heart and soul, for overcoming adversities and for not giving up, finally reaching her goal set many years ago. As Associate Pastor and Director of Education and Youth, her new church home will reap the benefits of her many talents.

And by the way - Happy Birthday Heidi!

From your loving aunt and uncle, next-door-neighbors, and friends. Whoa, a reverend living next door, we better be on our best behavior!

Good for Heidi and sincere congratulations to her, not to mention happy birthday wishes!
Yep, you'd better not have any more of those wild parties! (unless you invite her) :)

Tough church for a woman to be respected in. I hope she find fulfillment in her endeavors. My exhusband was a minister in the Christian Church so I knew whereof I speak. Good enough to clean the communion cups but not good enough to serve them. Perhaps there has been some progress over the last 20 something years.
