rainy days and Mondays

Over the weekend, I could actually feel my spirits lifting along with the clouds, the sun out for the first time in a week, the rays falling across the saturated deck, driveway puddles, shining on the flag gently blowing in the breeze.

It was deceiving, appearing out the window to be warm like spring, but in the background was the reminder of the steady hum of the furnace. Isn't it strange how our mood and outlook is so affected by the weather? After a week of being indoors, it felt good to get out and about on Saturday.

Of course, the nice weather only lasted one day. We are now back to rain and gloom to start the week. Rainy days and Mondays…

Bah, humbug, on the old weather man. He couldn't forecast his way out of a paper grocery sack. We were supposed to get freezing ice and snow, and we duly prepared for bad weather -- even canceled a trip to the daughter's on Saturday -- and what did we get? Rain and more rain and nary a drop of ice. So here it is on Monday morning and the deck is still wet. I think I'll go fix a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup.
