first day of school

School starts back today in our neck of the woods, and if you listen real close, you can almost hear the collective sigh of mothers everywhere. Our daughter, Melissa, says the party starts - I mean the bus leaves - about 7 a.m...

School started here in our berg on August 10. Since we live next to the high school/middle school, we are now inundated with horrendous traffic twice a day by the thundering hordes who think our street is the Indianapolis 500 racetrack. Bless those parents who think their darlings should drive to school instead of taking the bus.

School started here on the 9th and now all traveling with son & family all comes to a screaching halt because of everyday football practice & boyscout meetings. Boo Hoo

Susan, I love your take on the 'back to school' issue....while other blogs are sounding mournful and sad about it all, your blog is (of course) upbeat and humorous! Thanks for the cartoon - it made me grin :)

The cartoon reminded me of a conversation I had with my then 17 year old son before we went to England for a year. We'd been joking around and I said -

"You won't even cry when we leave for England, will you?"

Russ - "Yes, I will".

Me - "Why?"

Russ, throwing his arms in the air "Coz I'll be SOOOO happy!"

Ah well!

I'm a teacher, too. The kids start after Labor Day, but I'm already getting ready.
