sounds of silence

Sometimes when all is quiet, it really isn't…

katydids keeping time
hoot owl
tree frogs
howling of faraway coyotes
summer thunder rolling in the distance
wind in the trees overhead
crickets
carpenter bees in the wood above my head
ceiling fan gently stirring the air
steady breathing by my side

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again

~Sounds of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel

Hope you didn't get bit up by mosquitos sitting out there on the deck listening to the sounds of silence.

I love this poem, Susan. My favourite line is 'steady breathing by my side'.
(If I had to write a similar poem, it would be 'strangled choking noises by my side'. Doesn't have quite the same ring, does it?!)

The poem sounds like you are listening to all of these sounds from the comfort of your bed with the windows wide open.
