It is that time of year, summer vacation time. To go or not to go - that is the question, and where? Maybe the beach? Mountains? Hiking? or even Skydiving?
Surfing the internet for ideas, vacationing vicariously through other's trips...
Blogger June has some awesome photos from her trip to Utah. She has been on a couple of trips with the group Elderhostel, great scenic areas, guided trips, even some trail building…
But in looking at the brochures and website, first I cannot seem to get past the name, elder… then looking at their pictures, it is like the silver sea… not sure I am ready for this?
More internet surfing found this - Sierra Club, also has vacations, backpacking trips, hiking, etc. Sounds a little better. But can I keep up with these young folks? Maybe in my mind I fit in with the Sierra Club but my body might be better suited to the Elderhostel?
For now I think I will join the Sierra Club. In addition to their many environmental causes, they offer trips and even local hikes. And right now they have a special offer - for $15 you get a magazine subscription and this free pack:
Sierra Club 1892 Rucksack...a replica similar to the backpacks used by John Muir and the early members of the Sierra Club over 100 years ago during their exploration hikes.
Not that I need an 1892 backpack...
Still not sure about vacation… every time I return from a trip, I wonder why I ever left home - peaceful mountains, screened porch to sit on and watch the wildlife, my own bed to sleep in, and all for free!
Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul alike. ~John Muir (founder of Sierra Club)
