not to be mistaken for the May-blooming mountain laurel
affectionately called rhodys they fill creek banks and cool places, and are most famous along the Blue Ridge Parkway this month
we have some in the yard thanks to some creative landscaping and they seem to do just fine in the sun around the house
the buds start out cotton-candy pink and open up to a cluster of white flowers
that are very popular with the local bee population
