It looks like some kind of root...or maybe an alien body part.

a very sleepy dog?

Isn't it cool how you can tuck your cold piggies under and they never mind?

Yes, it does look like an alien body part. It also looks like salt water taffy. It also looks like some terribly obese person's fat stomach overflowing onto their thighs (ugh).

My guess, however, would be an odd ice formation/sculpture, such as frozen water from a waterfall.

A walrus? Or a rock.

It's a mushroom or toadstool, A fungi.

I never thought of fungi. It's interesting when you take a photo of part of something. Are all those different fungi edible? I'm very wary of picking anything but very ordinary looking mushrooms from the ground. Mum would never let us pick mushrooms from under trees even if they looked okay - she said that they were more likely to be toadstools. However, one of the joys of living on a farm was collecting mushrooms in the autumn.

Susan, that was way too cool. We love it, and all the guesses were terrific. Way to go Pasadena for the correct answer.

When are you going to offer another one for us bored souls to consider?

A mushroom?! Never would have got that one!

Mushrooms, fungi - wonderful to see in the woods but I stick with mushrooms from the store to eat. Years ago I read Euallal's books on naturally forgaing but was never brave enought to try the mushrooms. Neat pictures.
