Eleven years ago today we became grandparents -- a momentous day! Carrie and I went with Melissa to the hospital, a very exciting trip. Andy was in Navy training and hurried home to meet his son. Buddy was in Gatlinburg peddling his crafts when we called him with the news, it's a boy!
Kyle has the distinction of being the first grandchild and the only boy. With three sisters, before long he will probably feel like Jeff Foxworthy, "living in the estrogen ocean."
Kyle has lots of extended family, which is a good thing, especially at birthday time. He has already had one birthday celebration with his dad, coming home with lots of money and new video games. His Grandma Bobbie has promised to take him to Wild Adventures for his birthday. His mom surprised him with a trip to see Toby Keith in concert (his favorite) back in August. And we haven't even had our family birthday get-together yet!
We have watched him come up through T-ball and soccer and little league and guitar lessons and football. He's a good kid, always looking out for his sisters and helping mom around the house and mowing the grass. He likes to read Harry Potter. He likes to go geocaching with us old grandparents! We are looking forward to many more birthdays to celebrate with Kyle.
Grandparents are similar to a piece of string - handy to have around and easily wrapped around the fingers of their grandchildren.
