dogwood winter

Callaway Gardens, GA

Does it always get cold at Easter? Why is that?

I remember when I was young, Easter was the time for a new dress and new shoes, thin and summery. Then on Easter morning it would be cold and windy and the old winter coat would come out and cover up all the Easter finery.

It was over 80 degrees last week, and is supposed to be in the 20s this weekend. Dogwood Winter is here.

For the last few weeks spring has been showing its true colors with daffodils, tulips, forsythia, and wildflowers. And now the dogwoods are in full bloom here, another iconic sign of spring, and just in time for Easter.

"Funny how every year we never seem to be amazed all over again when the flowers bloom," a comment from a blogger friend.

Spring is a time of renewal, rebirth, hope, surprise, and yes amazement. I am always amazed when flowers bloom in my yard.

Bundle up for Dogwood Winter and remember not to wear white shoes before Easter!
