smoke in my eyes
The mountains are still being elusive, hiding under their quilt of smoke. Top picture - Mountain View Turnout - you can barely make out the outline of the mountains - see if you can find it!
We traveled the entire Teton park today, down one road and circling through Jackson and back up the other road. The air cleared up some down on the south side, but the haze was still there, not the clear blue sky and sharp mountain peaks like in all the pictures.
We did some hiking at the Laurance Rockefeller Preserve, 3 miles roundtrip over to Phelps Lake. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. is part of the park history, buying up over 30,000 acres of land here and donating it to the park service to be part of the Grand Teton National Park. This lake we hiked to was part of his family's private retreat, then after his death his son Laurance donated it to the park also, after removing all the cabins and roads, taking the land back to its natural state.
Stopped at all the turnouts along the route, above is the Snake River with the beautiful Teton range in the background - NOT!
Found a nice barn, probably not the iconic barn that is on all the postcards etc., this is what it is SUPPOSED to look like:
