read intentionally

Life is a Verb by Patti Digh

life is a verb by Patti Digh

37 days to wake up. Be mindful. And live intentionally.

"At some point in your life, you'll only have thirty-seven days to live. Maybe that day is today. Maybe not.
Such a day arrived on October 24, 2003, for a 6-foot, 5-inch-tall man with a southern accent, a golfer's tan, five World War II Bronze Stars, and a forest-green Lincoln Town Car. On that beautiful autumn day, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died just thirty-seven days later.
That man was my stepfather…" ~Patti Digh

I love a book that grabs my attention with the first sentence. And makes me think. Here is where the question comes in: What would you do if you had just a year to live, six months, 37 days?

This life event affected the author profoundly and instead of just pondering the what ifs, she did something about it. She answered the question by writing this book for her daughters, a guidebook on life, the stories of her life…

"I'd leave with them for safekeeping my thoughts and memories, fears and dreams, the histories of what I am and who my people are… how to know what to care about, how to treat others around them (and themselves), what to question, how to love, what to stand up for, and why they should tell stories and listen to the stories of others." ~Patti Digh

"If the Buddha had two kids, a dog named Blue, a Southern accent, and a huge crush on Johnny Depp, his name would be Patti Digh," wrote one reviewer after Patti's grassroots bestseller, Life Is a Verb, was published. Digh (pronounced "dye") is a Southern-born master storyteller whose stories are full of humor, poignancy, surprise, pain, and knowing. ~ from her Facebook page.

Besides loving all the stories and quotes and beautiful artwork and drawings, it also has nice paper - the paper feels good, thick but not too thick, glossy smooth - things I learned from Carrie who would not buy or check out a library book unless it felt just right. It also has wide margins for making notes, if you just want to say something, if what you read sparks an idea, jot it down - like I would ever write in a book!

I am also enjoying from Patti Digh, Your Daily Rock, 366 thoughts and quotes to start your day.

and just for fun, search GOOGLE images for 'your daily rock' and see what pops up!
