walkabout

Did you ever want to just get in the car and drive, see where you will end up? Kind of a walkabout. The recent three day weekend was like that for us.

We started out on the North Carolina waterfalls byway, following Hwy 64 from Murphy through the mountain towns of Franklin, Highlands, Cashiers. We cruised through the Standing Indian campground, checking it out for future camping trips.

It was a hot day, we saw folks cooling off in the Cullasaja River. The road was narrow and windy through the mountains, and by the time we got to Brevard we were ready to get out of the car onto solid ground.

We found a car show going on in downtown Brevard. I had never been to a car show, it was fun to see the old cars, some looking familiar like the 55 Chevy we used to have.

We strolled through O.P. Taylor's toy store, saw lots of trains and watched a couple racing slot cars.

And discovered Architectural Antiques - great stuff salvaged from old homes like mantles, claw-foot tubs, and stained glass windows.

It was a nice break in our journey, but time to hit the road again. It is just the first day of three, I wonder where we will end up next?
