turning pages

From the first impression
to turning of the last page,
my thoughts on books recently finished:

P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern

How will Holly cope with her young husband's death? Find out how as she follows his posthumous directions for getting on with her life. Funny and sad and a good story, looking forward to seeing the movie!

Mason Jars in the Flood by Gary Carden

Described as the Garrison Keillor of the South, Gary Carden's Appalachian stories take place in nearby North Carolina. They evoke memories of times long gone, visiting the grandparent's farm, simple pleasures like riding bikes and marbles. His colorful stories are a breath of fresh air in these complicated times.

life on the refrigerator door by Alice Kuipers

A great quick read, notes from mother to daughter and back, as they pass through life just missing each other. From grocery lists to chores to life-changing messages, follow the story as these two connect through life on the refrigerator door.

Dead Time by Stephen White

Another good suspense read about Dr. Alan Gregory, psychiatrist in Boulder, Colorado. He gets caught up in an unsolved missing person in the Grand Canyon which leads to a whole lot more. I have enjoyed others in this series, and highly recommend it.

How Starbucks Saved My Life by Michael Gates Gill

At age 63 the author went from 3-named, successful, rich, healthy, Michael Gates Gill down to just Mike, a barista at StarBucks. His second chance at life and work is a good read, and makes me want to go get a Two Pump Grande Decaf Skim No Whip Mocha, whatever that is.

never have your dog stuffed by Alan Alda

After his near-death experience, Alan Alda decided it was time to write his memoirs. From growing up on the sidelines of vaudeville, to his mother's mental illness, to his many jobs over the years, his wife, children, grandchildren, and of course his entrance into our living rooms as Hawkeye, he had a big story to tell, and did a good job of it. Oh, and they really did have is dog stuffed…
