happy new year

A lot has been said about the passing from one year to the next, here are a few of my favorites:

We will open the book.
Its pages are blank.
We are going to put words
on them ourselves.
The book is called Opportunity
and its first chapter
is New Year’s Day.

~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one Year and out the other. ~Anonymous

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas.

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin

In the New Year, may your right hand always be stretched out in friendship, never in want. ~Irish toast

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. ~Eleanor Roosevelt

Here's a toast to the future
A toast to the past
And a toast to our friends, far and near
May the future be pleasant
The past a bright dream
May our friends remain faithful and dear.
