Something was missing.
The screen was giant, the popcorn deliciously salty and buttery.
But something was different.
While watching the previews, Buddy leaned over and whispered, "That's not film, it's digital." Missing were the scratches, lines, fuzzies, and breaks for reel changes. The picture was amazingly clear.
Since the movie was not on giant reels of film, I wondered what it looked like - a DVD? A giant DVD?
The new technology is from DLP - I have seen their commercials - "its all in the mirrors".
A digital movie can be distributed to theaters via satellite, physical media, or fiber optic networks, then it is stored on a computer, which sends it to a digital projector.
An online search here will let you know which theatres in your area are showing digital movies.
