'round the sun

The stately flag looks sad flying at half-staff, a tradition representing a nation showing respectful memory of a fallen leader. We watched the weekend news coverage of the deaths of three very different people- President Ford, James Brown, and Saddam Hussein.

As for other traditions, New Year's Eve:

Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to. We didn't even try to stay up - 9:30 out like a light.

And New Year's Day, we ate our traditional fare, hoping for riches this year:

It is said in the Southern States of the US, that if you eat black-eyed peas and turnip greens on the first day of a new year, you'll have good fortune throughout the year. The peas represent copper and the greens are dollars. Each pea you eat equals one dollar's worth of earning, and each portion of turnip greens equals $1,000.

And what about those pesky traditional resolutions? Maybe because I didn't stay up to watch the ball drop, it doesn't really seem like the new year yet. Actually it seems kinda like SSDD. But if I had to make some resolutions, just off the top of my head, let's see...

less caffeine, more water
less sitting, more walking
finish up some projects
go to some new places
do something to blog about

Are we ready for another trip around the sun?
