the wallet maker

Our grandson, Kyle wanted to make a wallet for his 4-H project, and since he knew I sewed, he had it all figured out, we could make one out of fabric and put something in it to make it stiff. I told him that my dad used to make leather wallets and that I thought we had his tools somewhere out in the shop. We asked grandpa Buddy if he had seen them, and of course he knew exactly where they were. When opening up the box, we found all kinds of tools and leather, too!

Kyle made his wallet and poster about how to make a wallet. He told his teacher how he used the tools of his great-grandfather who made wallets in the olden days. I told him it was just a hobby of my father's, it's not like he was the village wallet maker or anything, but it still made a great story for his project.

Kyle traveled Saturday on a schoolbus full of local kids to the district 4-H competition, and came in 4th place in his category. He had a great time and is looking forward to going back next year.
