Now Playing

I just got an e-mail with the movie schedule of the week for the local drive-in theater. Really! It is so cool, even though we haven't been in many years, I still get a kick out of the e-mail reminder. It reminds me of back in high school when that was the only place to go. You could take your own food, popcorn, candy, fried chicken, whatever you want, or of course they have the concession stand. You bring a blanket for the cold nights. When we were dating back in the early 70s they would play bingo at intermission between the double feature. You would be given a bingo card with your admission, and then they would call out the numbers over the speaker (the one that you got off the pole by your car and hooked onto your window). Some folks would bring lawn chairs to sit in to watch the movies, others would sit in the back of their pickup trucks. When the sound would die or if the film got off the track, everyone would blow their horns. Sometimes the fog would roll in so thick you couldn't even see the screen. Great memories.

We have always loved movies, either going to the movies or watching them at home. I thought the modern walk-in theaters with stadium seating and incredible sound systems couldn't be topped, but now when we go, and watch the people put their feet up on the seat in front of them, and talk on their cell phones, or just talk to each other during the movies, I wonder if maybe the drive-in is a better choice. We may have to research this further, will keep you posted…
